LYCEON Refund Policy

Refund Policy at a Glance

This summary provides a plain-English overview of how refunds work on LYCEON. It is not a substitute for the full policy below, which governs in case of any inconsistency.

If someone else paid for your subscription — a parent, guardian, or anyone else — paid access belongs to the student's account. A refund cancels that access. Either the Payer or the student may request a refund, and we issue it to the Payer.

On your first paid subscription: You have a 7-day satisfaction guarantee. If LYCEON isn't right for you, request a refund within 7 days of your initial paid subscription charge and we'll refund you in full.

On automatic renewal charges: If you forgot to cancel before a renewal charge and you haven't used the Service since the renewal, you have a 3-day grace window to request a refund. Beyond that, renewal refunds are reviewed case-by-case by our support team.

If you live in the European Union, European Economic Area, or United Kingdom: You have a statutory 14-day withdrawal right on distance sales that takes precedence over the 7-day window. You get whichever protection is more favorable.

If you live in Quebec: Quebec consumer-protection law gives you additional rights described in Section 6.2.

How to request a refund: Email support@lyceon.ai with your account email and the charge you want refunded. We respond as quickly as possible — typically within a few business days.

After a refund: Your subscription is canceled and your access to paid features ends. Free-tier access remains.

What we don't refund automatically: Renewal charges outside the 3-day unused-service grace window; partial billing periods where you used the Service; chargebacks resolved against LYCEON. These are not categorical denials — contact us and we'll review the specifics of your situation.

1. About This Policy

This Refund Policy ("Policy") explains how LYCEON AI ("LYCEON," "we," "us," or "our") handles refunds for paid subscriptions to the LYCEON platform (the "Service").

This Policy applies to:

  • Students who hold paid subscriptions on their own accounts
  • Parents or legal guardians who hold paid subscriptions for a minor's LYCEON account
  • Anyone else who has been charged for a LYCEON subscription

This Policy is incorporated by reference into our Student Terms of Use and Parent / Guardian Terms. What the Payer agrees to at checkout is set out in our LYCEON Billing Terms. The terms of subscription billing, automatic renewal, and cancellation are described in our Subscription / Auto-Renewal Notice. How we process your personal information in connection with billing and refunds is described in our Privacy Policy.

In the event of a conflict between this Policy and another LYCEON document with respect to refunds, this Policy governs unless the other document is specifically required by law to govern.

2. Definitions

For purposes of this Policy:

"Payer" means the person who completes checkout and whose payment method is charged. The Payer may be the student, or a parent, guardian, or other third party purchasing on the student's behalf.

"Student Account" means the LYCEON account to which a subscription attaches. Paid access always attaches to a Student Account, regardless of who paid.

"Subscription" means a paid subscription funding one Student Account.

"Initial Subscription Charge" means the first paid subscription charge on your LYCEON account. If you cancel and resubscribe at a later date, the first charge of your new subscription is treated as an Initial Subscription Charge.

"Renewal Charge" means any subscription charge after your Initial Subscription Charge, including monthly renewals, annual renewals, and any other recurring charges that occur automatically at the end of a billing period.

"Satisfaction Window" means the seven (7) calendar days immediately following an Initial Subscription Charge.

"Renewal Grace Window" means the three (3) calendar days immediately following a Renewal Charge during which a refund may be requested if you have not used the Service since the Renewal Charge occurred.

"Used the Service" means any activity recorded in our usage logs against the Subscription, by either the Student Account or a connected guardian. This includes signing in, beginning or completing a practice question, interacting with LISA, opening any paid feature, or a connected guardian viewing the student's progress, mastery, or calendar data.

This definition applies to Subscriptions where a guardian or third party is the Payer, which became available after this Policy was first published.

Receiving a billing receipt or notification email does not count as Using the Service.

"Billing Period" means the period of time for which a subscription charge provides access (for example, one month for a monthly subscription, twelve months for an annual subscription).

"EU/EEA/UK Distance Sale" means a paid LYCEON subscription where you are a consumer (not a business) and you contracted with LYCEON without face-to-face interaction, as those terms are used in the EU Consumer Rights Directive and the UK Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations.

3. Satisfaction Guarantee — Initial Subscription Charges

3.1 The Satisfaction Window

If LYCEON isn't right for you, you may request a full refund of your Initial Subscription Charge within the Satisfaction Window (seven (7) calendar days following the charge).

To qualify:

  • You must request the refund within seven (7) calendar days of the Initial Subscription Charge
  • You must contact us using the process described in Section 7
  • The refund applies to the Initial Subscription Charge only — Renewal Charges are governed by Section 4

Within the Satisfaction Window, we provide a full refund of the Initial Subscription Charge. We do not pro-rate based on the days you used the Service.

3.2 What Happens to Your Subscription

When we process a refund under this Section, your subscription is canceled immediately and your access to paid features ends as soon as the cancellation is recorded in our systems. You retain access to free-tier features on the same account.

3.3 If You've Used the Service During the Satisfaction Window

The satisfaction guarantee applies whether or not you've Used the Service during the Satisfaction Window. We don't ask you to prove you didn't try LYCEON — we expect you to try it. If you decide LYCEON isn't right for you within seven days, the refund is yours to request.

3.4 Resubscribing After a Satisfaction-Window Refund

If you receive a Satisfaction Window refund and later resubscribe, the new subscription is treated as an Initial Subscription Charge with its own Satisfaction Window. LYCEON reserves the right, in our reasonable discretion, to decline repeated Satisfaction Window refunds where the pattern of use indicates the policy is being used in a way that materially diverges from its intended purpose. We apply this discretion consistently, based on objective account and billing history, and subject to applicable law.

4. Renewal Charges — Grace Window for Unused Service

4.1 The Renewal Grace Window

If you forgot to cancel your subscription before a Renewal Charge and you have not Used the Service since the Renewal Charge occurred, you may request a full refund within the Renewal Grace Window (three (3) calendar days following the Renewal Charge).

To qualify:

  • You must request the refund within three (3) calendar days of the Renewal Charge
  • You must not have Used the Service since the Renewal Charge — see Section 2 definition of "Used the Service"
  • You must contact us using the process described in Section 7

Within the Renewal Grace Window and where you have not Used the Service, we provide a full refund of the Renewal Charge.

4.2 If You've Used the Service After a Renewal

If you have Used the Service in any way after a Renewal Charge, the Renewal Grace Window no longer applies. Renewal Charges where you have used the Service are reviewed under Section 5 (Renewal Charges Outside the Grace Window).

4.3 What Happens to Your Subscription

When we process a refund under this Section, your subscription is canceled immediately and your access to paid features ends as soon as the cancellation is recorded in our systems. You retain access to free-tier features on the same account.

4.4 Cancelling Before a Renewal

You can cancel a subscription at any time before a Renewal Charge through the Stripe customer portal accessible from your account settings, or by emailing support@lyceon.ai. When you cancel before a Renewal Charge:

  • The Renewal Charge does not occur
  • You retain access to paid features through the end of your current Billing Period
  • No refund is needed because no Renewal Charge was made

The Renewal Grace Window only applies when a Renewal Charge has already occurred and you discover the renewal after the fact.

5. Renewal Charges Outside the Grace Window

If your refund request does not qualify under Section 4 (because more than three (3) calendar days have passed since the Renewal Charge, or because you have Used the Service since the Renewal Charge), we will review your request on a case-by-case basis.

We consider, among other factors:

  • How much time has passed since the Renewal Charge
  • Whether and how much you have used the Service since the Renewal Charge
  • Whether technical issues, unauthorized charges, billing errors, or other circumstances support a refund
  • Whether applicable consumer-protection law in your jurisdiction provides additional rights (see Section 6)

We do not guarantee a refund in these cases, but we treat each request fairly and respond promptly. If we approve a refund under this Section, we may provide a full refund, a pro-rated refund based on the time remaining in the Billing Period, or a service credit toward future subscriptions, as appropriate to the circumstances.

If we decline a refund request under this Section, we provide a brief explanation of the basis for our decision and any options that may be available to you, including continuing to use the Service through the end of the Billing Period you have already paid for.

6. Region-Specific Rights

Consumer-protection law in certain jurisdictions gives you rights in addition to those described above. Where applicable law provides a refund right more favorable to you than this Policy, applicable law governs. The following Sections describe specific regional rights — they are summaries and are not legal advice; your actual rights are defined by the law of your jurisdiction.

6.1 European Union, European Economic Area, and United Kingdom — Distance-Selling Withdrawal Right

If you reside in the European Union, European Economic Area, or United Kingdom and you contracted with LYCEON as a consumer through a distance-selling arrangement, you have a statutory right to withdraw from the contract within fourteen (14) calendar days of the date the contract was concluded, without giving any reason.

This right is provided by the EU Consumer Rights Directive (2011/83/EU, as amended) and the UK Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013. It takes precedence over the seven (7)-day Satisfaction Window in Section 3 — you receive the more favorable of the two rights.

To exercise your withdrawal right:

  • Send a clear statement of your decision to withdraw to support@lyceon.ai within fourteen (14) calendar days of the date you subscribed
  • You may use the model withdrawal form provided in Annex I(B) of the EU Consumer Rights Directive, but you are not required to
  • We will refund all payments received from you for the subscription without undue delay and no later than fourteen (14) calendar days after the day on which we are informed of your decision to withdraw

If you have started Using the Service during the withdrawal period: By beginning to use a digital subscription service during the fourteen (14)-day withdrawal period, you may be deemed to have requested supply of the Service during the withdrawal period. Where applicable law treats this as a partial loss of withdrawal right (for example, under Article 16(m) of the EU Consumer Rights Directive concerning digital content), we will follow the requirements of applicable law and inform you of any consequences when you request to exercise your withdrawal right.

Checkout disclosures and consent for digital content. Before you complete a paid subscription as an EU/EEA/UK consumer, the LYCEON checkout flow presents the disclosures required by applicable consumer-protection law concerning your withdrawal right, including any required express consent and acknowledgment if your access to digital content begins during the statutory withdrawal period. Where applicable law requires specific consent or acknowledgment text, that text is presented at checkout in the form required by applicable law. The full disclosure presented at checkout is also reproduced in our Subscription / Auto-Renewal Notice.

6.2 Quebec — Consumer Protection Act

If you reside in Quebec, the Quebec Consumer Protection Act ("LPC") and related regulations may give you additional rights with respect to your LYCEON subscription, including provisions concerning distance contracts under sections 54.1 to 54.16 of the LPC.

Where the LPC provides rights more favorable to you than this Policy, the LPC governs. To exercise any LPC-based right, contact us using the process described in Section 7.

6.3 California — Automatic Renewal Law

If you reside in California, the California Automatic Renewal Law (California Business and Professions Code § 17600 et seq.) provides specific protections for automatically renewing subscriptions, including:

  • Clear and conspicuous disclosure of recurring-charge terms before you subscribe
  • Affirmative consent to auto-renewal terms separate from broader Terms of Service acceptance
  • An easy and prominent online cancellation mechanism for online subscriptions
  • Reminder notices for long-term auto-renewals

These protections are addressed in our Subscription / Auto-Renewal Notice. Where the California Automatic Renewal Law provides rights more favorable to you than this Policy, that law governs.

6.4 Australia, New Zealand, and Singapore

Australian consumers retain rights under the Australian Consumer Law (Schedule 2 to the Competition and Consumer Act 2010), New Zealand consumers retain rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993, and Singapore consumers retain rights under the Consumer Protection (Fair Trading) Act 2003. These rights cannot be waived by contract. Where applicable consumer-protection law provides rights more favorable to you than this Policy, that law governs.

6.5 Other Jurisdictions

If you reside in a jurisdiction not specifically addressed above, applicable consumer-protection law in your jurisdiction may give you rights in addition to those described in this Policy. Where applicable law provides a refund right more favorable to you than this Policy, applicable law governs.

7. How to Request a Refund

7.1 Contact

To request a refund, email support@lyceon.ai.

Either the Payer or the holder of the Student Account may request a refund. Email us from the address on either account. Where the Payer and the student are different people, we may contact both before processing, so that neither is surprised by a loss of access or a charge reversal.

Please include:

  • The email address on the LYCEON account, and the Payer's email address if different
  • The date and amount of the charge you want refunded
  • A brief explanation of why you are requesting a refund
  • For refunds requested under Section 4 (Renewal Grace Window), a confirmation that you have not Used the Service since the Renewal Charge

We do not require a detailed reason for a refund request within the Satisfaction Window or the Renewal Grace Window. We ask for context to improve the Service and to help our support team respond effectively.

7.2 Self-Serve Cancellation vs. Refund Request

You can cancel your subscription yourself at any time through the Stripe customer portal accessible from your LYCEON account settings. Self-serve cancellation stops future Renewal Charges but does not, by itself, refund a charge you've already paid. To request a refund of a charge that has already occurred, email support@lyceon.ai as described in Section 7.1.

If you cancel through the customer portal during the Satisfaction Window or Renewal Grace Window and you also want a refund of a charge that has already occurred, you must still email us to request the refund. We do not automatically refund charges based on cancellation alone, because not every user who cancels wants a refund — some prefer to keep using the Service through the end of the Billing Period they have already paid for.

7.3 Response Time

We respond to refund requests as quickly as possible. For requests within the Satisfaction Window or the Renewal Grace Window, we aim to process the refund within a few business days. For requests under Section 5 (case-by-case review) or Section 6 (region-specific rights), we may take longer to investigate the circumstances, but we will keep you informed of the status of your request.

7.4 Refund Method

Refunds are issued to the original payment method used for the charge, where technically available. If the original payment method is no longer available (for example, the card has expired or been closed), we will handle the refund using a legally permitted alternative method, which may include another payment method on file, another payment method you provide, or, only where permitted by applicable law and accepted by you, a service credit toward future LYCEON subscriptions. We do not issue refunds in cash, by check, or to a different person than the original payer.

8. What Happens After a Refund

8.1 Cancellation and Access

When we process a refund, the Subscription is canceled immediately and the Student Account's access to paid features ends as soon as the cancellation is recorded in our systems. Where a guardian or third party was the Payer, their derived access to that student's data ends at the same time, because it comes from the student's subscription.

This applies to all refunds under this Policy — Satisfaction Window refunds, Renewal Grace Window refunds, case-by-case refunds under Section 5, and refunds under region-specific rights in Section 6.

You retain access to free-tier features on the same account. You retain ownership of any content you have created on the Service, subject to the terms of our Student Terms of Use and Parent / Guardian Terms.

8.2 Data Retention

Your account data continues to be retained and processed as described in our Privacy Policy. A refund does not automatically delete your account. If you also want your account and associated personal information to be deleted, request deletion separately as described in the Privacy Policy.

We retain billing records (transaction history, refund records, payment confirmations) for the period required by applicable accounting, tax, and consumer-protection law. This is described in our Privacy Policy.

8.3 Effect on Future Subscriptions

A refund does not prevent you from resubscribing in the future. Resubscriptions are subject to this Policy, with the protections described in Section 3.4 (Resubscribing After a Satisfaction-Window Refund).

9. Chargebacks

A "chargeback" is when you dispute a charge directly with your bank, card issuer, or payment network rather than requesting a refund from us.

We prefer to resolve refund and billing concerns directly. Direct resolution is typically faster than the chargeback process, doesn't affect your account standing, and lets us investigate the underlying issue (for example, a billing error or unauthorized charge) more thoroughly than a chargeback usually allows.

If you initiate a chargeback for a LYCEON charge:

  • We may pause access to the Service on the disputed account pending investigation
  • We may provide documentation to your payment provider to address the dispute
  • Chargebacks resolved against LYCEON do not require us to issue an additional refund of the same charge
  • Repeated chargebacks across multiple charges may result in account review and, where appropriate, account closure under our Student Terms of Use or Parent / Guardian Terms

If you have already initiated a chargeback and want to resolve the matter directly with us instead, contact support@lyceon.ai and we will work with you to withdraw the chargeback and process a direct refund where appropriate.

10. Non-Refundable Items and Edge Cases

Certain items are not subject to refund under this Policy, except where applicable consumer-protection law requires otherwise:

  • Third-party fees: If your payment provider (bank, card issuer, payment network) charged you fees for currency conversion, foreign transaction processing, or similar services in connection with your LYCEON charge, those third-party fees are not refundable by LYCEON. You may be able to recover them from your payment provider directly.
  • Promotional credits, gift subscriptions, and scholarships: If your subscription was paid for with a promotional credit, a gift subscription, or a scholarship provided by LYCEON or a third party, refunds are limited to the actual amount you paid out of pocket, if any. We do not refund the cash value of promotional credits, gift subscriptions, or scholarships back to you.
  • Account closures for material violations of our terms: If your account is closed for a material violation of our Student Terms of Use, Parent / Guardian Terms, Honor Code, or Acceptable Use Policy, we generally do not provide a refund of subscription fees for the remainder of the Billing Period, unless required by applicable law or determined otherwise by LYCEON in our reasonable discretion. This is a contractual consequence of the violation, not a refund-related decision.
  • Currency fluctuations: Refunds are issued in the currency of the original charge. If exchange rates have changed between the date of the charge and the date of the refund, the refund amount in a different currency may differ from the amount of the original charge in that currency.

This list is not exhaustive. We treat refund requests outside the Satisfaction Window and Renewal Grace Window on a case-by-case basis as described in Section 5, including for situations that are not specifically listed above.

11. Refund Processing Time

Once we approve a refund, we initiate the refund through Stripe, our payment processor. The time it takes for the refund to appear in your account depends on the payment method and the policies of your bank or card issuer:

  • Credit and debit cards: Typically five (5) to ten (10) business days after we initiate the refund
  • Bank transfers and direct debit (where applicable): Typically five (5) to fifteen (15) business days
  • Other payment methods: Timing varies depending on the payment method and the policies of the issuing institution

We do not control how long your bank or card issuer takes to credit a refund to your account once we have initiated it. If a refund has not appeared in your account within fifteen (15) business days of our confirming the refund has been issued, contact us at support@lyceon.ai and we will investigate.

For refunds under EU/UK statutory withdrawal rights (Section 6.1), we initiate the refund without undue delay and no later than fourteen (14) calendar days after we are informed of your decision to withdraw, as required by applicable law.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Policy from time to time. Each version of this document carries a version number and effective date. When we make changes, we publish a new version with a new effective date, and the previous version remains available. If the changes are material — for example, changes that reduce the scope of refund rights described in Sections 3, 4, or 5 — we will provide reasonable advance notice, typically by email to the address associated with your account and through in-product notification.

Changes to this Policy apply prospectively to charges that occur after the Effective Date of the updated Policy. Charges that occurred before the Effective Date of an updated Policy continue to be governed by the version of the Policy in effect at the time of the charge.

If you do not agree with a change to this Policy, you may cancel your subscription before the change takes effect and request deletion of your account as described in our Privacy Policy. Continued use of the Service after the Effective Date of an updated Policy constitutes acceptance of the updated Policy.

Nothing in this Section limits your rights under applicable consumer-protection law, which may require additional notice or consent procedures for material changes.
